Attaining and Protecting Your Professional Nursing License

I plan on taking my exam in Maine which is a nurse licensure compact state. The application is completed and submitted either manually on paper, or electronically on the web-base through Pearson-Vue. License information must be shared through the website Nurseys by law. You cannot apply in Maine for examination in Maine if you legally reside in another state that is not a compact state. You have to have graduated from a board-approved education program. A person trying to get licensed must have no federal felony convictions on their record for compact state applications. Background checks and fingerprinting is required for this state in order to be a nurse. Person’s looking to get licensed by examination should get their fingerprinting and criminal background checks after completing the exam so that the process does not have to happen twice. You can seek help for substance abuse while being a nurse without the board knowing, this is legal. Impairment on the job regarding a nursing career in Maine, this will get reported to the board of nursing and you will likely get your license terminated. There are many legal issues surrounding the nursing profession that I will be sure to protect myself from once I start my career. I will be sure to read my company’s protocols and handbook thoroughly before starting my future nursing jobs. I will also make sure to delegate appropriately and understand to make the delegated tasks my responsibility still. I will also never pretend to not know something when working in healthcare; doing this will prevent incompetence and silly mistakes that could cost my nursing license.
