Planning the Journey

This research paper assigned in evidence-based practice should be completed in a timely and organized manner. Our topic chosen relates to postpartum depression and epidural use for mothers. My group and I chose this topic because we wanted something related to the specialty of labor and delivery in nursing. My group and I have created a time management plan to help navigate how the paper will get completed on time and with our best efforts put forward. A benefit of being in the group I chose includes the fact that we are all roommates and have the same school schedule for our nursing courses. Being roommates with my group members is extremely helpful for this research project because we can easily find time to discuss the project dates and tasks. My group and I normally sit at the kitchen table and study our course content together after classes and on the weekends, so finding time to work on this research paper is something that we intend to do as well and should not have a problem with. As a group, we have decided to all take part in reading and researching articles on our topic as we know it is the most crucial part of the research paper that determines how the assignment will turn out. As we go along throughout the semester completing parts of the assignment, we will all have our individual parts to do, but we also decided to help each other with our individual parts by peer editing each other after completion.

  I took it upon myself to have a planner and calendar to keep track of my schooling. I use my calendar and planner to keep track of dates for all assignments and exams from all my courses so that I am more prepared for each day. I also make a weekly schedule every Sunday to plan for other events in my life that may be happening that week, classes, tutoring, and study block times. Making this weekly schedule helps me plan out when I will have time to do each of my assignments and also helps me get ahead in my courses so that I do not feel as overwhelmed with due dates. As a peer and friend to my group members I will be sure to hold myself accountable for any tasks that are delegated to me, but also hold myself accountable to help my group members with their parts of the research paper to make sure we are always on the same page. As group members we have multiple group chats through social media platforms and iMessage, as well as multiple shared documents to prepare for this research paper.

Planning a longitudinal assignment such as this research paper is a skill that will help me in my future nursing career. Planning out an assignment like this will help me and my group members learn how to manage our time, utilize evidence-based practices, and most importantly master the skill of prioritization. As a future nurse, learning how to prioritize tasks is a crucial skill to prevent burn out, incompetency, and safety issues. I anticipate that this research paper will work out great and enhance my personal skills regarding research, time management, and collaboration.
